Well, We're Movin' On Up.....

A select group of Northeast Utilities employees can be forgiven if they can't get the old "Jeffersons" theme song out of their heads this weekend.

That's because 167 members of the utility's financial and executive staff are leaving NU's sprawling corporate campus over looking the Berlin Turnpike and heading for Hartford.

The NU staffers who are being relocated will spend their last day in Berlin on Friday and will report to work in Hartford on Monday, according to company officials.

The new headquarters (see photo) is located near the new Connecticut Science Center in a 93,000 square foot building at 56 Prospect St. that was formerly occupied by insurance giant The Phoenix Co. Company officials announced the relocation plan last September, but the details of the move had been in a state of flux since then.

At one point, NU officials were contemplating doing the move in two phases, but ultimately decided against that.

For more details and reaction to the move, see Saturday's New Haven Register business section.
